20-Hour Standoff Ends In Wethersfield: Police

One person was taken into custody on Saturday morning, police said.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — A 20-hour standoff between police and a man ended Saturday morning as the accused was taken into custody, police said.

At 10 a.m. Friday, Wethersfield police were requested by East Hampton police to assist in serving an outstanding arrest and search warrants at a Tristian Court residence, police said.

Jeffrey Howlett, 63, was wanted on the charge of violation of a protective order, police said.

While attempting to serve the warrants, there were indications that Howlett was inside the home, but he didn't respond to officers on scene, police said.

Residents of the area were evacuated or advised to shelter-in-place while Prospect Street was blocked from Ridge Road to Willow Street, police said.

Numerous attempts were made to contact Howlett and have him exit the home over the course of the day and night, police said.

At 7:30 a.m. Saturday, the Capital Region Emergency Services Team made entry into the home and were able to take Howlett into custody, police said. He was taken to the hospital under the custody of the East Hampton Police Department. Prospect Street has since reopened.
