Bear Spotted Wandering Around Wethersfield
A black bear wandering around Wethersfield has prompted authorities to send out an advisory.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — A black bear wandering around Wethersfield has prompted authorities to send out an advisory to observe it from a distance and to not entice it with snacks.
Wethersfield police said on Friday they received several reports of bear sightings early Friday.
The bear was seen in different areas of town, including Ridge Road, Wright Road, Wolcott Hill Road and Nott Street, police said.

As of late Friday morning, the bear was last seen in the 600 block of Wolcott Hill Road heading south.
Officers from the were dispatched to these areas and did observe the bear, police said.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was contacted about the bear sightings and did respond, police said.
Police issued the following advisory:
"Residents should be aware of their surroundings and are reminded that bears are attracted to garbage, pet food, compost piles, fruit trees and bird feeders around houses.
"Homeowners should take the necessary steps to make sure their homes and yards are
not attracting bears.
"Anyone seeing a bear in Wethersfield is encouraged to call the Wethersfield Police Department at (860) 721-2900."
