Wethersfield Historical Society is pleased to present an afternoon with Ethan Rutherford, author of North Sun: or The Voyage of the Whaleship Esther. Named a “Best Book of 2025” by Vanity Fair, The Globe & Mail, The Strategist, Independent Book Review, and President Barack Obama, this work of historical fiction follows the crew of the whaling vessel Esther along their 1878 voyage from New England to the Arctic. To place Rutherford’s work in historical context, he’ll be joined by Tanya Pohrt, curator of Lyman Allyn Art Museum’s New London Whaling exhibit.
Rutherford will speak in the ballroom of the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center (200 Main Street, Wethersfield). Admission is $10 per person for the general public. Members of Wethersfield Historical Society will be admitted free of charge.
