Police ID Man Pulled from Connecticut River in Wethersfield

The man was pulled from the river on Friday.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — It appears the Hartford man who was pulled from the Connecticut River on Friday drowned after a kayak accident, Wethersfield police said.

At 10:49 a.m. on Friday, someone fishing on the riverbank saw a body floating by and called 911, police said.

Officers from the Wethersfield Police Department were dispatched to the north end of the Wethersfield Cove area and were led to the location of the victim, which was several hundred yards south of the mouth of the entrance to Wethersfield Cove, police said.

The man was pulled from the water by police and firefighters, but was unresponsive at the scene, police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was notified and a crew responded to the scene, police said.

Officers discovered an overturned kayak several hundred yards north of the man’s location and it appears that the man fell from the kayak and drowned, police said.

The man has been identified as Sandro Louro, 47, of Arnold Street in Hartford.
