State Police Arrest Man for Firing Gun on I-91

The man is accused of firing a gun from a car on the highway in Wethersfield, state police said.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — A Hartford man was taken into custody on Saturday and charged for firing a gun from a car on Interstate-91 last month, state police said.

The incident took place on Oct, 24 at 7:53 p.m., according to an arrest warrant. State police received a call from the driver of a box truck that had been traveling in the right-hand lane near Exit 27. A black Ford Taurus was in the center lane next to the box truck and the driver told state police that, from a position higher than the Taurus, and saw a gun sticking out from a sunroof and go off, according to a warrant.

The driver of the truck was unable to get a description of the occupants because of tinted windows, but state police were able to trace the Taurus to 22-year-old Miguel Rivera of Hartford, according to a warrant. The vehicle was located two days later in Hartford and impounded, according to a warrant.

State police found a 9mm pistol and an expended shell casing inside the car, according to a warrant.

Rivera was located in Hartford on Saturday and arrested. He was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, the illegal discharge of a firearm and breach of peace, state police said.

He was being held on a $150,000 bond Saturday night and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, state police said.
