WETHERSFIELD, CT — Reps. Russ Morin (D-Wethersfield) and Tony Guerrera (D-Newington/Rocky Hill/Wethersfield) applauded the State Bond Commission’s approval on Wednesday of a $1.7 million grant for the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum in Wethersfield.

The funding will be used to construct a new education and visitor center, which will provide education, exhibition and meeting space, they said.

The bonding will ensure the project’s completion, supplementing the $6 million in funding secured by the museum, they said.

“I have supported this project as an opportunity to both expand educational programming at the museum and draw more visitors to Wethersfield’s historic district,” Morin said. “The Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum is a unique attraction for those interested in Connecticut’s history, and now it will be enjoyed year-round.”

The new center will allow the museum to remain open year-round. Currently, the museum closes for three months each year because of a lack of heated spaces to hold programming, he said.

“The Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum is in the heart of Old Wethersfield,” Guerrera said. “Increasing the number of visitors to the museum is good for Main Street businesses and good for Wethersfield’s economy.”

The museum manages four historic 18th century homes which are open to the public for tours.
