Wethersfield Cops, Citizen Credited With Saving a Life at Football Game

A man in the stands had a medical issue, police said.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Two police officers and a fast-responding citizen are being credited with saving a life at last week's high school football game.

On Sept. 30, Detective James Darby and School Resource Officer Eric Knapp were working a private duty detail at the game and were summonsed by a concerned youth, police said.

The youth said there was a man in distress.

Darby and Knapp discovered that a man had grasped his chest and collapsed, police said. The man was unconscious, was not breathing and had no pulse, police said.

Darby and Knapp immediately initiated CPR and were soon joined by an "unknown good Samaritan," police said.

"Ultimately, the work of Detective Darby, Officer Knapp and the good Samaritan helped provide life-saving measures until ambulance personnel arrived and were able to administer an AED," Wethersfield police said in a statement. "These actions helped bring the males heart back into rhythm."
