CL&P Will Help You Save Energy

A Home Energy Solutions initiative by CL&P is offering residents a chance to have energy audits conducted on their homes for a very affordable price.

Odd as it may seem, the company that charges you for electricity wants to help you save it.

Through the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, CL&P is sponsoring a program where for $75, residents can have an approved contractor come to their homes and conduct a comprehensive energy audit. As the weather gets colder, the days get shorter, and energy consumption goes up accordingly, it's tough to put a price on such a service.

Well, actually, it's not tough to put a price on it at all. And several Wilton Energy Commission members were considering or had already signed up for the energy audits precisely because of their low cost and potential savings.

"The savings can be anywhere from $350 a year and up," said Bruce Hampson at last week's commission Meeting.

According to CL&P's website, available here, the service can include a variety of tests that measure drafts and air leaks in doors, hot water-saving measures, potential rebates to be had, energy-efficient light bulb installation, and a full review of other measures residents can take after the audit to increase their returns.
