Driver Found Unconscious, Trapped After Crash In Wilton: Police
Police said an officer extinguished a fire before crews freed the driver from the vehicle.
WILTON, CT — A driver was found unconscious and trapped inside a vehicle after a crash on Cannon Road Sunday evening, police said.
An officer on patrol came across the single-vehicle crash, where a car had struck a tree, according to the Wilton Police Department.
Police said the driver was pinned inside the vehicle and unconscious. The officer also observed a fire in the engine compartment and extinguished it before fire crews arrived.

The Wilton Fire Department responded to help the trapped driver. Fire officials said multiple tools were used during the extrication, including hydraulic cutters, spreaders — commonly known as the “Jaws of Life” — and a ram. The driver was removed from the vehicle in about 12 minutes.
The driver was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Police said the outcome could have been far worse if the officer had not arrived when she did.
