Free College Prep Workshop at Trackside

Mary Spiegel and Lynn Carnegie will present a free workshop at Trackside on planning for college and how to prepare for the SAT/ACT exams.

Mary Spiegel of Spiegel College Planning is returning to Trackside Teen Center on Thursday March 30th from 7-9pm, to talk to Wilton teens and parents about the college planning, search, and admissions application process. Joining Mary will be Lynn Carnegie of Carnegie Pollak. This information-packed program is perfect for parents and all college-bound teens in grades 8 through 11.

The evening begins with Mary’s overview of the college planning process. Younger students will gain a “big picture” view of their road to college, with specific tips for mapping out a four-year high school plan. Students will learn about making the most of the high school years, how to develop an appropriate college list, and how to research colleges. Mary will then specifically address the college application process, which will be of particular interest for current juniors.

As a former director of admissions and a 20- year veteran of the college admissions world, Mary’s “peek inside the college admissions office” will include: how colleges evaluate the transcript and test scores; the role of the interview; the importance of the essays; tips regarding the various admissions plans; scholarships and financial aid; and recent developments in college admissions.

The final segment of the program will be devoted to the changing standardized testing landscape. Both the SAT and the ACT have undergone major overhauls in the past year. Founder of local test prep company Carnegie Pollak, Lynn Carnegie will clarify these changes, as well as help parents and students create individualized testing plans. In addition, Carnegie will answer questions about when to begin test preparation, how to choose between the SAT and ACT, and when to take SAT Subject Tests. There will also be time for questions at the end of the session.

The workshop is free but registration is requested. Register online at www.trackside.org/college. The workshop will take place on Thursday March 30th from 7pm to 9pm at Trackside Teen Center, located at 15 Station Rd in Wilton.
