From Bill Brennan: An Open Letter to the Citizens of Wilton

Bill Brennan thanks citizens for their strong participation and support.

Dear Friends:

Thank you for re-electing me as your First Selectman.  I greatly appreciated the tremendous civic effort made by many Wilton citizens to vote in this important local election.  Your efforts helped us to dramatically increase the percentage of voters who actively expressed their preferences on the candidates and the two referendum items. Congratulations to all Wilton voters!

In addition, a big round of applause goes to all the candidates who participated in this election and generously volunteered to serve their community.  In particular, I would like to congratulate Warren Serenbetz and Gail Lavielle who won a strongly contested race for the Board of Finance. Best wishes also to my colleagues on the Board of Selectmen – Hal Clark, Susan Bruschi, Richard Creeth and Ted Hoffstatter for their election successes.  I look forward to continuing our work together to make Wilton a better place to live and raise a family.

While campaigning over the last five weeks, I was occasionally asked why I was actively campaigning when I was unopposed.  Simply stated, campaigning is primarily about communicating.  It is an opportunity to talk to the citizens of our community about the issues and to exchange thoughts on solutions to current problems. It was a rewarding experience and very helpful to me as we embark on a new term of government in a very difficult economic environment.

Once again, thank you for your vote of confidence.  Please be assured that I will do my very best to represent the interests of all Wilton citizens fairly and equitably and to demonstrate that the trust you have conveyed to me has not been misplaced.
