Lost Tortoise Reunited With Owner After 'Jaywalking' In Wilton: Police

WILTON, CT — A wandering tortoise that briefly landed in the care of the Wilton Police Department after being found crossing a busy road has been reunited with its owner.

Police shared the update Friday after the large tortoise was discovered making its way across Westport Road.

According to the department, a resident safely took the tortoise into custody and brought it to police headquarters, where the reptile was housed at the department's animal shelter while officers searched for its owner.

In a lighthearted social media post, police said the tortoise, whose name is Tahoe, enjoyed a brief stay in the department's "shell-ter" before being reunited with its family.

"Tahoe promised to leave the road crossing to the chickens from now on," the department joked.
