Man Charged with Stealing Construction Equipment: Police

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Wilton PD and state police.

WILTON, CT — Police responded to a call on Aug. 18 to the Town of Wilton Department of Public Works yard located at Allen's Field. Officers discovered that someone had forced entry into the gated property that had been secured by a chain and lock. Missing from the property was a 2008 Vibroscreen SCM-40, a construction machine used to screen material.

Investigation revealed a suspect truck, carrying the stolen equipment, traveling in the areas of Route 107 and Route 53 in Wilton and Redding on August 18. Further investigation developed information that the owner of the suspect vehicle was Ronald Conroy, 43, of Harwinton.

On Aug 24 with the assistance of he Connecticut State Police, Conroy was located in Harwinton driving a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle.

That same day, members of the Wilton PD and state police executed a search and seizure order at Conroy's residence. There they discovered the missing Vibroscreen SCM-40.

Conroy was taken into custody on Aug. 29, following the issuance of an arrest warrant. He was charged with larceny in the first degree, and held on $75,000 bond. Conroy was arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court on Aug. 30.
