Mark Salottolo Named Wilton Softball Coach

The former New Rochelle High School softball coach replaces Bruce Cunningham, who stepped down after the 2010 season to concentrate on his duties as Wilton's head football coach

Wilton High School has found a successor to replace former softball coach Bruce Cunningham, who stepped down after last season to concentrate on his other position as the Warriors' head football coach.

Mark Salottolo, a long-time physical education teacher at New Rochelle High School, has come out of retirement to take the Warriors' softball job. Wilton officially announced the hire on Tuesday.

In 2009,  Salottolo stepped down after spending 12 seasons as New Rochelle's softball coach.  He also retired after a 36-year career as a physical education teacher at New Rochelle.

The Warriors are coming off a 12-10 season in which they qualified for the state tournament for the sixth straight year.

Salottolo, who moved to Bethel after his retirement, guided New Rochelle to a pair of league titles during his time there.

Salottolo was a catcher on the Temple team that lost to Arizona State, 1-0, in the semifinals of the 1972 College World Series.
