Mid-winter blues?

Try helping others to get you going!

It is amazing what happens when you help other people. You actually feel better yourself.

Positive Discipline is based on the works of Alfred Adler. Adler believed that if we do one thing for someone else every day for fourteen days, at the end of that time, your depression will be gone. Imagine what happens if you aren’t depressed!

And, when you feel better, others around you will feel better. That’s because of the “monkey see, monkey do” effect of the mirror neurons in our brains.

Our friends and community neighbors have been amazing at this throughout the recent snow storm. They have snow plowed, shoveled and cleared cars for one another. We were recently away, and were the recipients of these gifts. I am so grateful for their generosity!

Here are some ideas for how you and your children can give to others, as part of our community:
-Buy extra food for the local food pantry. Kids can use some of their own money.
-Bring the mail and/or newspaper in to an elderly neighbor.
-Make an extra plate of food, and bring it to someone.
-Shovel, plow, snow blow for others
-Leave a package of cookies in someone’s mailbox
-Offer to pick up groceries while you are going
-Call someone just to say hi
