Westport, CT, November 11, 2014 – Nadia Louyer de Villermay, president and owner of NLdeV Restoration of Westport, CT has announced that she is launching a new division to her business, Antique Furniture Preservation, specifically dealing with preserving antiques and fine furniture. This is a new, one-of-a-kind service for on-site antique furniture conservation to Connecticut homeowners and businesses.

Starting her company in 2005, Louyer is trained in the old-world methods of preservation, using traditional French materials and techniques to preserve precious woods in heirloom pieces so that restoration is not needed. She is a graduate of France’s INFA – Institut National de Formation Artistiques. Nadia specializes in woodwork, gilding, marquetry and French polish, continuing the practices of continental masters.

When the integrity of the wood is maintained, pieces will look better and last longer than when harsh chemicals, or seemingly benign solutions such as Windex or Pledge, are used on older furniture. What appears like a great shine from an off-the-shelf product will actually damage the wood over time. Using mostly natural-based products, more green than toxic, Louyer keeps your investment looking its best. Simple changes in temperature, humidity, sunlight and daily wear affect antiques as well. Louyer comes into the home and ministers her expertise on-site to valuable antiques right on premises. Fine furniture is cared for by a professional whose goal it is to preserve and protect the wood from degradation and unsafe cleaning practices over time, so that more vigorous and intense restoration is not required. “The more restoration work a piece incurs, the more chance it has to lose value. Proper preservation is the ideal, so restoration and refinishing are not necessary,” Louyer says.

Services offered by Antique Furniture Preservation include cleaning, waxing, oiling, revival of colors and finishes, partial touchup and refinishing, white ring removal, gilding touch-ups, leather treatment, and insurance claims for damage from storms and other natural disasters.

According to Louyer, “I believe that any intervention must be guided by reflection, sensibility and absolute respect for the piece of art, and I believe that the soul of an object is more than the sum of its parts. Its original craftsmanship, the materials of construction, the information inherent to its fabrication are all integral to its nature. But the personality of an object develops through time. And these developments must be respected, not erased.”
