Social Skills Groups, Coping with Anxiety Programs, and TEEN Social Anxiety Groups!

SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS

Children who do not have adequate social skills are put at risk for isolation from peers and family, emotional and behavioral problems, and academic underachievement. Research evidence has demonstrated the effectiveness of small, skill-based, interactional groups in improving children's difficulties with social communication and interaction.

What can be expected? •Small groups of 4-6 students •Students grouped based on age and specific needs •Groups run by a licensed social worker •Initial screening assessment •Individualized goals for each child •Progress notes to track your child's improvement •Topics covered will be based on the specific needs of each group. However, some topics you can expect include: Greetings and conversation skills, eye contact, identification of feelings, friendship skills, manners, resolving conflict, coping with anger and anxiety

COPING WITH ANXIETY PROGRAM

This program is designed for children and adolescents who are experiencing anxiety that is interfering with their academic achievement or interpersonal relationships. Anxiety comes in many forms including, but not limited to school-based anxiety, test anxiety, social anxiety, and general anxiety. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 8% of teens ages 13-18 have an anxiety disorder, with symptoms commonly emerging around age 6. Anxiety can impair many areas of the child's life if left untreated. In our Coping with Anxiety Program your child will work one-on-one with our social worker who is trained and experienced in working with individuals struggling with anxiety.

What you can expect: •Licensed social worker •1 hour session once per week •Use of evidenced-based practices •Cognitive-behavioral based curriculum tailored to your child's specific needs •Child will learn about what "anxiety" is •Child will learn to better identify anxiety triggers and signs of anxious feelings •Child will learn relaxation strategies •Child will learn to identify and challenge negative self-talk •Child will learn various coping skills to manage anxiety •Child will practice gradual exposure to anxiety-provoking scenarios if needed

Call today to schedule days and times that work best for you!

**We are also in the process of establishing a SOCIAL ANXIETY GROUP FOR TEENS.

We will be offering our teen social anxiety groups on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00PM-2:00PM OR 4:30PM-5:30PM.
