Nigeria Lecture at Weston Library November 19

Westport author, Catherine Onyemelukwe, speaks on Nigeria and signs her memoir, Nigeria Revisited: My Life and Loves Abroad, in Weston.

November 15, 2014 (WESTON, Conn.) -- The Friends of the Weston Public Library is pleased to welcome Westport author, Catherine Onyemelukwe, to the library on Wednesday, November 19 for a Lunch and Learn program from 12:00 noon - 1:30 pm. Ms. Onyemelukwe will address the current political situation in Nigeria as well as its history, legacy of colonialism and culture. Additionally, Ms. Onyemelukwe will provide perspective on the tragic kidnapping of the Chibok school girls and their captors, the Boko Haram.

Ms. Onyemelukwe entered Nigeria as a Peace Corps volunteer in 1962 and stayed for 24 years. She married a Nigerian and went on to raise a family, teach, launch a business and ultimately, adopt the country as her own. Ms. Onyemelukwe has captured her experiences in her recent memoir, Nigeria Revisited: My Life and Loves Abroad (Peace Corps Writers/Create Space, October, 2014).
