Free Lecture: One New England Country Parish Learning from History
Features television program broadcast by Newtown-based CTV21 of Jonathan Stock's Lecture, "One New England Country Parish"

One New England Country Parish – Learning to Learn from History: Free Lecture
For centuries, the churches and clergy especially in New England were responsible for recording the daily activities, financial transactions, the public meetings, conversions, births, marriages and deaths of the members of the local community. In essence, they were capturing the history of their town. Easton has benefited greatly from this time honored tradition of maintaining documents and recorded transactions held by the Congregation Church of Easton. The Historical Society of Easton will proudly sponsor – One New England Country Parish: Learning to Learn from History on Saturday September 27th from 1:30 PM to 3:30PM at the Congregation Church Hall 336 Westport Road, Easton.
This event will feature an hour and half television program professionally edited and broadcast by Newtown-based CTV21 of Jonathan Stock’s Lecture originally presented in 2012. Jonathan Stock, former law librarian for 33 years and the Congregational Church of Easton’s historian has spent countless hours converting the church’s records from 1762 through 1930 into a digital tome of valuable and usable data. Through the compilation of documents, Mr. Stock takes us on a journey through time providing insight on how digitizing the historical data allows for in-depth analysis. He will share his thoughtful insights from examining 168 years of the town’s parish history. His work demonstrates the advantages of full-text searching and how these advantages translate into a better understanding of the major events that shaped both our town and parish history. By understanding the history of an organization, we are able to plan better for the future.
