Parenting Classes....an amazing experience!

What do you actually do in a Parenting the Positive Discipline Way Class?

You laugh, you think, you reflect, you share, you learn about yourself and your children.

There are over Positive Discipline tools and strategies to help you build better relationships with your children. Many of these are discussed during the class. You are also provided with a deck of tool cards, to help you when you are in the heat of the moment with your kids.

We learn about ourselves, and how we respond to others. We learn alternative ways to help our child learn how to be independent, resilient, and self-aware. We look at the world through our children’s eyes, so we can have a better understanding of why they are behaving or misbehaving. “A misbehaving child is a discouraged child,” said Rudolph Dreikurs. Understanding the child’s goals and beliefs behind their misbehavior can help us respond in a more productive and helpful way.

One of the high points each week is “Parents Helping Parents Problem Solve”. A parent volunteers a problem they are having with a child. They look at what the child’s goal behind the misbehavior might be. The class then brainstorms solutions to the problem, from what they have learned in class, from the deck of tool cards, and from their own experience. The parent that shared the problem then selects one of the solutions to go home and try. Often, others in the class are having a similar issue, and can go home and try the solution as well.

Here is what some of our participants have said about the class:

“This class opens your mind and heart!”

“It’s a very good way to look back at the way we were brought up and to see that way we react with our kids. There is hope. People can change and behaviors can change.”

“The 6 week course that followed has improved our family life tremendously!”

“Our family is becoming more mindful (intentional and deliberate in our words and actions) as we implement some of the positive discipline tools we’ve learned. It’s a peaceful and enjoyable way to live. It’s a challenge sometimes, and we’re nowhere near perfect at this… but the impact has already been incredible.”

“I feel every parent could use a little guidance basically so they know that they are not alone and sometimes the littlest things make a big difference.”

Come to a free introductory session next week, or sign up for a class starting later in March. Schedule and registration information: http://www.positivedisciplinect.org/parenting-classes/.
