Police: 2 Shops Fail Tobacco Compliance Inspections In Wilton

In a sting conducted alongside agents from state law enforcement, the Wilton PD cited two shops for selling tobacco products to minors.

WILTON, CT — In a compliance inspection conducted alongside State agencies, the Wilton Police Department cited two businesses for selling tobacco or vaping products to minors.

On Aug. 13, the Wilton Police Department and staff members of the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program conducted unannounced compliance inspections of seven shops that sell tobacco and electronic nicotine delivery products.

The inspections were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of e-cigarettes and/or tobacco products to youth under the age of 21.

Two of the shops made the sale, in violation of the state law. The offending clerks at these establishments were issued a first time infraction in the amount of $300.

  • Mohegan Smoke & Cigar Shop, 14 Danbury Road
  • PVC Gulf, 287 Danbury Road

The following retailers were found to be compliant:

  • Wilton Mobil Service, 46 Danbury Road
  • Shell Gas Station, 210 Danbury Road
  • Wheel's Gas Station, 386 Danbury Road
  • Georgetown Shell, 912 Danbury Road
  • Georgetown Mobil, 932 Danbury Road

Tobacco retailers are licensed by the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services. Non-compliant inspection results are referred to DRS for possible administrative action.
