Police Exterminate Permits for Pesky Pest Control Reps

Following multiple complaints, the police are cracking down on the door-to-door pest control salespeople.

WILTON, CT -- Police have suspended the permits of a pest control company that have been making a pest of themselves with door-to-door solicitations in town, First Selectman Lynne Vanderslice said in a release.

Following multiple complaints, police contacted the State Consumer Protection Agency. They were informed that representatives of pest control companies were legally required to obtain a particular license from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Further investigation by the police revealed that none of the pest control reps who have been going to door-to-door were properly licensed, according to Vanderslice.

Police contacted the company representative and advised them they were in violation of state statute and would be charged if they continued to solicit. They agreed to stop soliciting, according to Vanderslice.

Vanderslice noted that the Board of Selectmen, along with input from the Police Department, the Police Commission and the public, will be re-evaluating Wilton’s peddling and soliciting ordinance.
