Costumes for a Cause, Walter Schalk’s pop up costume sales shop will close February 28th and with only two weeks left, everything must go.
Schalk, who decided to give back to the community that supported his dance school for over sixty-years, dusted off the racks and boxes that held six decades of costumes and accessories in hopes of selling them all, with the profits going to local school theatrical groups.

With hundreds of costumes reflecting the Broadway musicals performed by his dancers still available, Schalk is worried that they will just head to the dumpster. He is asking any theatrical group in need of costumes now or for future to come by the shop.
All costumes, most of which were worn only once, have been cleaned, sorted and categorized by show. They are ideal for school performances, local theater, or any groups that perform and often come with accessories.
“We’ve been lucky with some great sales, but we’re out of time,” says Schalk. “I just wish I had a list of all the regional, high school, middle school and grade schools who might use them. Local theater groups, dance groups and schools—there are so many good uses for these costumes.”
Costumes for a Cause at 21 River Street will now be open until the end of February from 10-4 daily or by appointment: schalkwalter448@gmail.com or text: 203-858-3362.
