Selectmen Shave $300K from Wilton Town Budget

The move comes after the decision by the Board of Finance to keep the proposed 2019-20 town budget at a zero-percent increase,

WILTON, CT — Following the decision by the Board of Finance to keep the proposed 2019-20 town budget at a zero-percent increase,

The math worked out to $309,305 worth of cuts, which the BoS broke out in this way:

  • Reductions due to known short-term vacancies: $47,000
  • Reduction in sand purchases based on current inventory: $30,000
  • Reduction in legal expenses: $50,000
  • Reduction in medical expenses: $132,305

The selectmen took the remaining $50,000 out of the operating capital allotted for the purchase of a hotbox, opting to postpone the buy until the following year's budget.
