Serious Accident on Cannon Road

A serious, single-car accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. this evening on Cannon Road, just past the intersection with Sturges Ridge Road.

A red Volvo sedan was traveling eastbound on Cannon Road when it veered off the thoroughfare and struck a telephone pole. The impact severed the telephone pole and left the pole and powerlines dangling over both lanes.

The vehicle was unoccupied when police and firefighters reached the scene shortly afterward and an officer at the scene said he expected the road to be closed for several hours.
