Summertime Classics: Frostiana and More American Music
Music on the Hill celebrates America as the 16th annual Summer Chorus performs music by Randall Thompson, Aaron Copland, and more.
The 2018 Summer Chorus performs American music, led by guest conductor Kaitlin Lazere and featuring Randall Thompson's Frostiana: Seven Country Songs. Frostiana is a setting of seven Robert Frost poems, including"The Road Not Taken" and "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." It was commissioned by the town of Amherst, Massachusettes for its bicentennial celebration in 1959.
The program also includes Copland's "The Promise of Living," from his opera The Tender Land, as well as songs by Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, and contemporary American composer Morten Lauridsen.
The concert is Thursday, August 2, at 8 p.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Wilton, 36 New Canaan Road. It is presented free of charge as a gift to the community, with donations gratefully accepted. All are welcome.
