Town Of Wilton Publishes Coronavirus Update For December 31

December 31st - "Today we say good-bye to a year that none of us ever wanted. A year with great heartache, frustration and loss. But also a year when residents showed who we are as a community. A year when we all worked together to minimize the spread of the Coronavirus within our community. We weren’t perfect, but we end the year with the knowledge that the spread of the disease in Wilton was half of what it was in Fairfield County and across the state and the country.

As residents, you adapted and you did what Wilton does best. You focused your energies on helping others, including wearing your mask, keeping your distance, making record donations to the Wilton Community Assistance Fund and the Food Pantry, making masks for others, donating/delivering meals or gift cards to medical and emergency responders, shopping for Wilton seniors and those at high risk, turning out to cheer on our WHS graduates and other countless acts of kindness. Thank you for supporting your community.

But, as we leave this year, we must acknowledge we are not the same people we were in February. Whether or not we had the virus or we knew someone who had the virus, we were impacted. The restrictions and continued uncertainties significantly impacted every one of us. We all dealt with our own private pandemic, in a way we only know.

The new year brings us all hope. The hope of a better 2021 for us all.

The following is data, as of 8:30 p.m. last night, from today’s CT DPH report versus Wednesday’s December 30threport:

• Wilton: 6 new cases reported. 602 cases YTD.
• Statewide: 2,045 new cases. 8.95% of the 22,839 new tests reported were positive. 185,708 cases YTD.
• Fairfield County: 643 new cases. 56,288 cases YTD.
• Hospitalized Patients: Statewide, 1,136 with a 31-net patient decrease. Fairfield County, 295 with a 4-net patient increase.
• Deaths: Statewide, 5,995 with 31 new deaths. Fairfield County, 1,720 with 7 new deaths. Wilton, 45, with no new deaths.

There were no new cases in Wilton’s nursing or assisted living facilities during the week ended December 29th.

Please, behave as if you have the virus and as if those around you do as well.

• Walk, run or bike to the right in single file when passing another person on the NRVT, sidewalks and trails
