True Breeders Reopens Following Wilton Dog's Death

There were no traces of parvovirus found at a followup inspection.

The "open" sign was lit and the door unlocked at True Breeders this morning, given the OK to reopen after a two-week quarantine for parvovirus.

"I was there this morning. All the animals have been cleared, and they are allowed to reopen," state animal control officer Nancy Jarvis said.

True Breeders owner Christine DiCarlo said that, from now on, the store will quarantine all incoming puppies that weigh less than 10 pounds for 10 days after their arrival, since smaller animals are more susceptible to viruses.

The Department of Agriculture instituted the store-wide quarantine on March 5 after a teacup yorkie bought there by a Wilton couple grew ill with parvovirus and had to be euthanized shortly after its Feb. 28 purchase.

DiCarlo ultimately refunded the $1,600 that the couple paid for the dog on March 11.

"I knew that they were going to reopen us because nobody else was sick," DiCarlo said.
