Reach Out and Read is a non-profit organization working with medical providers to develop critical early literacy skills in children. With a focus on low-income families, we educate parents on the importance of reading aloud to their children every day and give new books to children 6 months through 5 years of age. Reach Out and Read Is the only program promoted by the American Academy of Pediatrics as a model for literacy development by medical providers and the only health related program reaching a broad population of at-risk children. Reach Out and Read has 15 published research studies showing that our program works: Children served by Reach Out and Read are read to more often, have better expressive and receptive language skills and are better prepared for success in school.
