I would give anything for just one more hug. One more kiss. One more “I love you”. One more phone call. Anyone who has loved and had a loss knows the feeling.
I am a child who has lost both of their parents. I miss them terribly. Some days more than others. And while for me, time softens the pain, it does not go away.

I know parents who have lost children, and cannot even imagine the depth of their pain.
So please, live in the moment, and enjoy today!

It is so important to take the time to enjoy our children, our parents, our loved ones. I encourage you to put away the electronics. Do one (or more) less things in a day. Take the time to be together. Laugh together. Play together. Eat together. Cry together. Say “I love you”. Hug often. Splash in puddles and get muddy. Roll down a hill. Eat breakfast for dinner. Read together by flashlight. Go shell hunting on the beach. Lie on the grass and do cloud painting together. Visit and call each other. Write old fashioned letters. Let go of the dust bunnies in your house. Cook together and don’t worry about the mess. Then clean up together. Tie die shirts together.
And if you are lucky enough to have aging parents as I did, treat them with respect and dignity, even though they may be acting like children again. Offer choices, rather than telling them what to do. Spend time doing the things they like to do, even if it’s watching old movies with the volume really loud or off all together. Love them for who they have become, and allow yourself to miss who they were. Try to understand all of their wishes while they are able to articulate them, and then do your best to honor them.
Because even though I wanted to tear my hair out at times with my aging parents, I would give anything for just one more hug, one more kiss, one more I love you.
