WHS Wrestling Wins Season Opener

Warriors start the season off on a good note in Stamford.

The Wilton High School wrestling team pinned down a win at their season opener on Wednesday night.

"Thanks to the managers, parents and fans who came out to support the team as WHS Warrior wrestling notched its first dual meet win of the 2010-11 season in a 44-24 match at Stamford High School," wrote Assistant Coach Damian Rinaldi.

Freshman Patrick Collins (103) and sophomore Estevan Garcia (119) both earned forfeit wins.

Junior Matt Hill (135), sophomore Wyatt Cobb, and senior Beau McDowell (285) all won by pin.

Senior Colin Lillis (189) posted a major decision and seniors Drew Kennedy (160) and Clay Helms (171) and junior Sean DeJager (215) all earned decisions in their matches.

In JV action, freshman Jeremy Jeffreis and sophomore William Gifford both won their matches.

"Congratulations are due to all the Warrior wrestlers, however, as every match was wrestled tough," Rinaldi added.
