Wilton Board of Ed Approves $87.5M School Budget
The proposed $87,571,064 plan represents a 3.26 percent increase over the current school year's budget.
WILTON, CT — Last week the Wilton Board of Education approved the superintendent's budget proposal for the 2022-23 school year.
The $87,571,064 plan represents a 3.26 percent increase over the current school year's budget.
During his presentation to the board Thursday, Superintendent Kevin Smith highlighted the new reductions which included shaving the document digitization plan from $75,000 to $20,000. The superintendent called the cut "the last non-staff place we can go" to trim costs in the budget. The new line would allow schools to fund the work currently underway, digitizing the special education records. The rest of the plan, and the remaining $55,000, would be "kicked out a year," according to Smith.

Additional reductions in the operating budget included an approximate $60,000 drop in transportation costs following renegotiations, and another $112,000 "based on the most recent figures that came in from the actuary."
Smith was also able to trim $151,798 from the operating capital budget by substituting a subfloor study for the proposed replacement of flooring at Middlebrook Middle School.
