Wilton Cub Scouts Build To Keep Bats In The Sky

Wilton housing crisis? Not for these critters. Pack 22 just built enough bat condos to house 400 of the flying bug eaters.

Pack 22 met for their October Pack meeting to assemble four bat houses, each of which could house a colony of around 100 bats.

**News Release Submitted by Wilton Pack 22 Cubmaster Frank O'Conner**

Coinciding with the end of bat week (October 24-31) Wilton Pack 22 got together to build bat houses to keep these small flying bug eaters in Wilton year round. Bats play an important role in our environment through insect control. A single colony can eat thousands of insects, including mosquitoes, each night. wonderful news to wiltonians and the same scouts who will be camping outside this summer.

Thanks to a donation of materials by Rings End, Pack 22 met for their October Pack meeting to assemble four bat houses, each of which could house a colony of around 100 bats. Always conservation minded and community oriented, these bat houses will be donated to local organizations so that this symbol of Halloween will be seen flying in our skies long after the decorations are put away. Just in time for the Halloween candy to run out and the mosquitoes to make their return, hopefully with a bat following close behind.
