Wilton Girls Basketball Needs Help To Get Into FCIAC Playoffs

Warriors begin final week one game out of a playoff spot

Over the past three weeks, the Wilton girls basketball team has been one of the hottest squads  in the FCIAC, going 7-1 in its last eight games.

That has allowed the Warriors (9-7, 10-8) to clinch their first state tournament berth since 2005, but it might not be enough to get them into the FCIAC playoffs.

Wilton begins the final week of the regular season tied for ninth - one game out of a playoff spot - and will need help to get in with two games left.

Four teams -- Norwalk (10-6, Westhill (10-6), Wilton and Darien (9-7) - are fighting for the final two spots. The Warriors do have a tiebreaker edge over Norwalk, which could help.

But while Wilton has a winnable game on Monday against McMahon (4-12), the Warriors in all likelihood will have to upset No. 2 seed Ridgefield (14-2) on Wednesday to qualify.

Norwalk finishes with top seed Trumbull (16-0) and McMahon (4-14) while Westhill closes with Stamford (7-9) and Darien (9-7). The Blue Wave also faces Danbury (12-4).

If forms holds Monday - that is, losses by Norwalk and Darien and wins by Westhill and Wilton - Norwalk, Westhill and Wilton will enter the final day of the regular season in a three-way tie for seventh at 10-7.
