Wilton Library to Hold Reception for Weir Artist-in-Residence

WILTON, CT — The Wilton Library will be holding a reception for Steffen Pollock, the current artist-in-residence at Weir Farm, on April 22 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Rimer Room.

Drawing from several literary sources, ("Pilgrim at Tinker Creek," "Hunger Mountain" and "Spell of the Sensuous") Pollock's work explores "the lack of distinction in 'subject' and 'object,'" the artist wrote.

"If the land is a text, he expresses himself as a segment of that text. Our view of 'land' is determined by what type of mental interpretive structure we are using to see. 'Seeing' is not and has never been the exclusive domain of the human eye. He will use different means to 'see' including satellite imaging, field recordings, land surveys, and telemetry."

Pollock cites Sally Mann, Anselm Keifer, Fred Williams, Zhang Huan, and Paul Gauguin among his inspirations.

Weir Farm's Artist-in-Residence program selects twelve artists to live and work at Weir Farm each year. To date, over 200 artists from throughout the U.S., as well as Tunisia, Germany, Australia, India and the Netherlands have participated in the AIR program. Visual artists apply for one month residencies in all media and diverse artistic points of view from traditional to experimental.
