Wilton Man Stabs 18-Year-Old Son in Back: Police

During the altercation, the father threw multiple knives at his son, according to police.

WILTON, CT — A local man was arrested Friday night for stabbing his son in the back, police reported.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing at a Wilton residence shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday. When officers arrived on the scene the found the 18-year-old victim outside the residence, "wearing a blood stained shirt in the area of his back," according to the police report.

Upon investigating, police learned there had been a disagreement between the victim and his father, Charles Steward, 53, of Wilton. The altercation occurred through multiple rooms, ending in the den where police say the elder Steward "threw multiple knives" at his son, which did not hit him. The son then tried to take cover behind a couch in the room, and his father "reached over the couch and stabbed the victim in his back with a knife," according to the police report.

Police say the elder Steward then tried to hide all the knives in a bedroom closet, including the assault weapon.

The victim was transported to Norwalk Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Police arrested the elder Steward and charged him with first-degree assault and tampering with evidence. He was held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Jan. 22.
