Wilton PD Announce Death of Police Officer
Sergeant Thomas "TJ" Tunney served the department for 31 years.

The Wilton Police Department announced the death of Sergeant Thomas “TJ” Tunney over the weekend.
“He was a long time member of the Wilton Police Department and served with dedication. May he rest in peace,” the department wrote on Facebook.
Tunney had been battling cancer. In December 2015, the Wilton Police Benevolent Association organized a fundraiser to support Tunney and his sister pay for illness-related expenses.

Good Morning Wilton reports Tunney received many accolades during his 31 years on the force including being named Wilton Officer of the Year in 2013. He also received the New England Chiefs of Police Medal of Valor and the American Red Cross Community Hero the same year.
“TJ was a very special man, Officer and friend who gave so much to so many. He truly was the kind of person anyone would want responding to assist during their darkest times as he cared for people and always tried to help,” Sgt. David Hartman of the Wilton PBA told Good Morning Wilton.

Members of the community expressed their condolences on the Wilton Police Department’s Facebook page.
A fundraiser originally scheduled for Jan. 7 at the Ponus Yacht Club in Stamford will now be a celebration of Tunney’s life. Tickets for the event are $40. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Lt. Robert Cippola or Sgt. David Hartman (david.hartman@wiltonct.org) at 203-834-6260.
Residents can make donations to the Wilton PBA with ”TJ” written in the memo section. Residents can mail of deliver a check to the Wilton Police Department, located at 240 Danbury Road.
