Wilton Police Blotter For Jan. 16-22

WILTON, CT — A forgery and a collapsed home were at the top of the Wilton Police Department's blotter last week.

After a lengthy investigation, the Wilton Police Department took James Spann, 29, of Mansfield Street in New Haven, into custody on Jan. 16.

The inquiry began with a complaint about a check that was stolen from a resident's mailbox and later deposited into Spann's bank account, according to police.

Police charged Spann with third-degree larceny and third-degree forgery. He was held on a court bond of $30,000 before being scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 17.

Shortly after 8:30 in the morning on Jan. 20, police received a report of a new construction collapsing at 141 Cannon Road.

First responders, including emergency crews from Wilton Fire Rescue and Westport Fire Rescue, found and extricated a worker from the first floor. He was transported him to Norwalk Hospital by ambulance. Another male worker was treated on scene for minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital.

Police say that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified, responded to the scene, and are investigating.
