Wilton Police Investigate Death Of Teen Believed To Have Taken His Own Life

Wilton police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old whom authorities say took his own life.

WILTON, CT — Wilton police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old male in what authorities said is believed to be a suicide, according to a news release issued Monday.

In a statement released Monday, Deputy Chief of Police Robert Cipolla said officers and detectives are still examining the facts and circumstances surrounding the death. Investigators are working with the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which is responsible for determining the cause and manner of death.

“Based on preliminary investigation, at this time it is believed to be a death by suicide,” the department said in the release.

Police said they would not release additional details out of respect for the family.

“Our hearts are with the family, friends, classmates, and all those affected,” the department said. “This is a profound loss for our community, and we ask everyone to keep the family in their thoughts and respect their privacy during this extraordinarily difficult time.”

The department encouraged parents and guardians to speak with their children and to monitor for signs of distress. Community members were urged to avoid speculation and sharing unconfirmed information, particularly on social media.

Police said they are working with school leadership and community partners to provide support within the school community, connect individuals to counseling and mental health resources, reinforce prevention and early-intervention efforts, and ensure accurate information is shared in a timely manner.

Authorities also provided resources for those in need of assistance, including calling or texting 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, calling 911 in an emergency, contacting the Town of Wilton Social Services Department at 203-834-6238, or reaching out to local mental health providers or school-based counseling services.
