Wilton Police Nab Motorist With Stash of Hallucinogens, Cocaine

Wilton police stopped a motorist for texting while driving, and found more than they expected.

WILTON, CT — Police arrested a Massachusetts man on a variety of drug charges after pulling him over for a routine traffic stop.

On Thursday morning at about 11:15, Wilton police stopped a motorist in the area of Danbury Road/Route 7 and Sharp Hill Road after observing him texting while driving, according to a report.

When police made contact with the driver, Jesse Daniel Pomponio, 30, of Bartlett Street in Watertown, MA, the officer detected an odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of approximately 5-1/2 pounds of marijuana, 50 grams of cocaine, 17 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms, and LSD. Police also seized $13,770 of U.S. currency from the vehicle.

Police charged Pomponio with possession of a controlled substance or greater than 1/2 ounce of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell, possession of a hallucinogenic substance with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pomponio is currently being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 6 if bond is not posted.
