Wilton Police Report Theft from Post Office Collection Box

The police are warning residents that mail theft from residential mail boxes and public USPS collection boxes is on the rise.

WILTON, CT — Police are reporting a theft from a United States Postal Service collection box in town.

During the overnight hours of Saturday Jan. 5 into Sunday Jan. 6, forced entry was made into a USPS collection box located on the property of the Wilton Post Office. Similar activity was also reported in the Town of Weston, Wilton police reported on social media.

The police are warning residents that mail theft from residential mail boxes and public USPS collection boxes is on the rise. They are cautioning anyone who needs to mail anything of value, is being particularly personal checks, to do so using a mail slot inside the Post Office building "to avoid being a victim."

Police are advising anyone who used a USPS Collection Box located on the Wilton Post Office property during the time frame of the above incident to monitor their accounts, and report any fraudulent activity to the Wilton Police Department for investigation.
