Wilton Senior Legion Shocks Greenwich - Twice

Wilton plays spoiler role as doubleheader sweep knocks Greenwich out of first place in Zone Four

The Wilton Senior American Legion team, which already had been eliminated from the state tournament, played the role of spoiler Sunday.

In the most surprising results of the Zone Four season, Wilton swept a doubleheader at Greenwich, which came into Sunday's twinbill with just one loss all year.

Despite an 8-13 record entering Sunday, Wilton won a pair of one-run games - 2-1 and 5-4 - to knock Greenwich (20-3) out of first place in the zone. Norwalk (19-2) took over the top spot by percentage points with a week left in the regular season.

Now 10-13, Wilton needs to win its final four games to finish over .500. Last year, it posted a 14-13 record, missing the state tournament by one game.

Wilton plays Greenwich again on Tuesday, then finishes up with three games against Darien.
