Wilton Ski Teams Sweep Girls Races, Honor Seniors At Mount Southington Meets
Wilton High ski teams earned strong finishes in back-to-back races at Mount Southington, including two girls victories.

WILTON, CT — Wilton High School’s ski teams posted strong finishes in consecutive meets at Mount Southington, winning both girls races and marking Senior Night during the first competition.
The Warriors competed in a Class S meet on Jan. 22, which also honored Wilton’s senior skiers. The girls varsity team placed first, while the boys varsity squad finished second overall behind Weston.
Wilton returned to Mount Southington on Jan. 29 for a combined Class S and Class L race, facing a deeper field. The girls varsity team again finished first, and the boys placed fourth.

Coach William Howard said the Jan. 22 race highlighted the contributions of the program’s senior leaders.
“The Wilton girls ski team celebrated its senior skiers at Mount Southington last Thursday,” Howard said. “Senior captains Lyla Theoharides, Polina Popova, and Charlotte DiNapoli have all skied together for four years now and have improved each year. Under their leadership the team has won three of four races so far this season.”

In the Jan. 22 Class S boys varsity race, Cooper Buchichio led Wilton with a time of 43.45 seconds, followed by Vincent Kelly at 47.64 and Ray Slough at 49.50. Other finishers included Kieran Wiseman, Theo Satrazemis, Benjamin Behar, Sean Raftery, Matt Morano, Matthew Polito and Henri Allemand.
The Jan. 22 girls varsity race was led by Olivia Edwards in 48.36 seconds. Parker Pettibone finished second, followed by Charlotte DiNapoli, Siena Buchichio, Lila Richardson, Magnolia Levy, Polina Popova, Charlotte Cates and Sterling Ford.
During the Jan. 29 combined Class S and L meet, Buchichio again paced the Wilton boys with a time of 45.55 seconds. Slough, Satrazemis, Behar, Wiseman, Leighton Graves, Raftery, Polito and Morano rounded out the varsity finishers.
Edwards led the Wilton girls on Jan. 29 with a time of 48.73 seconds. She was followed by Siena Buchichio, Popova, Theoharides, Pettibone, Richardson, Charlotte DiNapoli, Levy, Georgia DiNapoli and Cates.
Wilton has completed four races this season and is scheduled to compete in its final regular-season meet this week, followed by the state championships. Select racers are also expected to participate in the CT Shootout events later this week.
