Wilton Softball Stays Alive

Stacy Pokora's RBI single in seventh snaps tie as Warriors defeat Torrington, 4-3.

The Wilton High School softball team needed less than two innings Wednesday to keep its season alive.

Stacy Pokora's RBI double  snapped a tie in the top of the seventh, as the 17th-seeded Warriors defeated No. 16 Torrington, 4-3, in a CIAC Class L state tournament first-round game.

The contest was suspended in the top of the sixth on Tuesday runners on second and third with no outs for the Warriors, who could not break the tie in that inning. Wilton (12-9) traveled back to Torrington to complete the game.

Earlier in the sixth, Wilton erased a 3-1 deficit on a two-run single by Steph Boyles.

The win earned the Warriors another long bus ride, as they head to top seed and undefeated Waterford (20-0) for a second-round game on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Dani Miskinis earned the win Wednesday, allowing three runs - two earned - and nine hits. 

Torringtron finished the year at 12-9.
