Wilton Tennis Star Named 'Sports Person of the Year'

Fairfield County Sports Commission Names Sports Person of the Year in 15 CT Towns

The Fairfield County Sports Commission recently announced their 2014 Sports Person of the Year in each of the 15 communities they serve. The sports honorees will be recognized at the 10th Anniversary Sports Night awards dinner on in October.

A committee was formed in each of the 15 Fairfield County towns, which was headed by a local town representative of the Commission. Together they selected a Sports Person of the Year who they felt had the most positive impact in their sports community during August 2013-August 2014.

Wilton’s winner was Noah Farrell, Wilton High tennis player and 4-time Class L state champion. Noah is a recent graduate of Wilton High School and went undefeated this season with record of 22-0. He finished his tennis career with a 79-4 record.

The Fairfield County Sports Commission will recognize Farrell and the other honorees at an awards dinner on Monday, Oct. 20 at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. The new award they will present at this year’s banquet, and going forward, is the Sports Person of the Year for Newtown. The award was created due to a recent collaboration with the Newtown Youth Academy Sports and Fitness Center in an effort to support the town and its youth following the Sandy Hook School shootings.

This year’s winner is Maura Fletcher, who led the Newtown High girls’ lacrosse team to 10 straight SWC titles before retiring last June. Fletcher was also awarded the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year for girls’ lacrosse.
