Wilton's Brian Murphy Reaches Match Play In State Amateur Open
Shoots a 3-under 135 at the Country Club of Waterbury to finish tied as the No. 2 qualifier.

Wilton's Brian Murphy has advanced to match play in the 108th Connecticut State Amateur Golf Championship taking place this week at the Country Club of Waterbury.
Murphy, who plays out of Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, completed 36 holes of stroke play tied with Shorehaven's Tommy McDonagh as the No. 2 qualifier. He carded a 3-under par 66 Tuesday for a 36-hole total of 3-under 135 - two shots behind top qualifier Jeff Hedden of Black Hall.
On Tuesday, the field was cut from 105 players to the 32 who will begin match play on Wednesday. Sixteen matches take place in the morning, followed by eight more in the afternoon to reduce the field to eight.

The quarterfinals and semifinals are set for Thursday, followed by the 36-hole championship Friday morning.
In his first-round match, Murphy takes on Blake Morris of Waterbury at 9:30 a.m.
