Amazon donates Mobile Maker Spaces to Windsor Elementary Schools

Donation includes $15,000 worth of Mobile Maker Space items, new books for every classroom and grants to support STEM programs

Last week, before a cheering audience of teachers, students, parents and school administrators, Amazon made a surprise delivery of more than $15,000 worth of Mobile Maker Space items, new books for every classroom and grants to support STEM programs at two elementary schools in Windsor. The Schools, Oliver Ellsworth Elementary and Poquonock Elementary, are located within minutes of Amazon’s Windsor fulfillment center.

"Amazon is excited to support our next generation of innovators here in Windsor,” said David Galante a Senior Operations Manager at Amazon’s local fulfillment center. “These Mobile Maker Spaces will help make STEM programming more accessible, convenient and engaging, enabling teachers to bring STEM activities directly into the classroom.”

“The overwhelming generosity of Amazon is heartfelt and deeply appreciated,” said Oliver Ellsworth Principal Virginia Hoerle. “The teachers and students will now be provided with additional resources to support STEM learning activities, while also providing opportunities for group and individualized exploration, allowing children to soar in the areas of math and science. The families, students and staff of Oliver Ellsworth School are deeply moved by the generosity of and support from Amazon.”

In a gesture of gratitude and appreciation, Principal Hoerle announced that the school will dedicate a fixed Maker's Space room to Amazon. The area will be constructed this summer and will house additional equipment that will be purchased with Amazon’s grant.

“We are so appreciative to Amazon, who is not only a valued corporate citizen here in Windsor, but to their ongoing partnership and generosity to Windsor’s public schools,” said Windsor Mayor Don Trinks.

As part of school-wide celebrations for Dr. Seuss Day, Amazon associates, several of whom have children attending these schools, volunteered to visit classrooms to read books to students.
