WINDSOR, CT — A Windsor High School student-athlete is in the running for an award presented by USA Football, Hospital for Special Surgery and the New York Giants.
Kaiyah Hardy was selected as one of the Week 2 nominees for the 2026 Heart of a Giant Award, which recognizes high school students from Connecticut, New York and New Jersey for their character, commitment, teamwork, will and dedication.
Hardy, a member of Windsor's girls flag football and basketball teams, was nominated by her coach for the courage she has shown while overcoming adversity and helping others build confidence.
In her nomination profile, Hardy described sports as an important part of learning to trust herself after facing judgment about her appearance and abilities.
"Courage means believing in myself, taking opportunities even when I am afraid, and never allowing someone else's opinion to define my worth," Hardy said.
That confidence showed during Windsor's conference championship run. After losing a one-on-one jump ball on the final play of a rivalry game, Hardy received another opportunity against the same opponent. Playing quarterback in the rain, she led Windsor to a 21-0 victory and scored three touchdowns.
Her athletic honors include 2026 Army All-American recognition, the 2026 High School Girls Flag Football MVP award and selection to the Unrivaled High School National Championships All-Tournament Team. She has also received five collegiate flag football offers.
Hardy carries a 3.86 grade-point average and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has completed more than 200 hours of community service while balancing two varsity sports, school and a job.
She also launched an initiative that provides food, hygiene products and school supplies to families throughout Greater Hartford.
The Week 2 nominee receiving the most votes will advance as a finalist. Voting remains open through Oct. 4, and people may cast one vote every 24 hours through USA Football's website.
Eleven students will ultimately be recognized through the six-week program. Each finalist will receive a $1,000 equipment grant for their high school football program.
The grand-prize winner will receive an additional $9,000 grant for the school and will be honored during a New York Giants home game.
