Clover Street School To Hold Annual Fifth Grade Poetry Slam May 9
Students competing in the slam will vie for the honor of being named most dramatic poet by a panel of judges.

Clover Street School is proud to announce its Annual Fifth Grade Poetry Slam taking place on the evening of May 9, 2016 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
As a culmination of yearlong spoken word workshops in the fifth grade classrooms, nationally recognized poet Elizabeth Thomas mentored all 5th graders in April. Thomas is a national youth poetry slam team coach. She also designs and teaches writing programs and workshops for schools and organizations throughout the U.S. After spending four days working with the fifth graders on dramatic presentations of their original writing, Thomas will emcee the poetry slam on Monday, May 9th.
The poet-in-residence program and the slam are activities for the entire fifth grade. It is the culmination of a Challenge Resource program during which Lisa Thomas, Clover Challenge Resource teacher, presents poetry analysis and writing workshops as whole class enrichment throughout the school year. This supports the district’s literacy curriculum as well as other district goals related to citizenship, bullying, and public speaking.
