Clover Street School Receives Arts Learning Grant

Educational opportunity made possible in large part by a $5,670 Arts Learning Grant from the Connecticut Office on the Arts

Just as the grey chill of March arrives, students at Clover Street School in Windsor will have a spring in their step as they learn about art masterworks, rhythmic soundscapes and poetry-out-loud. This rich educational opportunity is made possible in large part by a $5,670 Arts Learning Grant from the Connecticut Office on the Arts, part of the CT Department of Economic and Community Development. The artist-in-residence program is designed to reinforce and extend the District’s curriculum standards, especially in the areas of literacy and multicultural education.

“We are very fortunate to receive the highly competitive state Arts Learning grant that, combined with other funding sources, is making it possible for Connecticut Master Teaching Artists to come into our school and work with our students,” explains Lisa Thomas, Clover Street School’s Challenge Resource Teacher. Each of our fourth grade classes will spend a week working with musician/songwriter, and former CT State Troubadour Thomasina Levy, and with award winning author Leslie Johnson. As part of this special teaching program, Clover Street School’s fourth grade students will visit the New Britain Museum of American Art where they will interpret works of art through their own poems and soundscapes.
